Osasuna draws 1-1 against Leganés
Los Rojillos took the lead, but saw the goal disallowed due to an alleged offside. A late penalty in favor of Leganés forced the split of points between both clubs.
Club Atlético Osasuna (7-14-9, 35 points) split points with Club Deportivo Leganés (6-10-14, 28 points) after a 1-1 draw at Estadio Municipal Butarque on Monday night. Defender Jorge Herrando scored the opener, but forward Dani Raba scored the equalizer from the penalty spot in the match's final moments.
The first half was evenly contested, with both sides attempting to create chances from the flanks. Forward Juan Cruz threatened for the hosts with two long-range efforts, and midfielder Renato Tapia also tested the goalkeeper with a powerful strike. For Osasuna, midfielder Jon Moncayola had the best early opportunity with a shot from outside the box, but goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic parried the ball.
Osasuna grew increasingly comfortable as the match progressed and began to pose more danger in the final third. Forward Ante Budimir had a clear chance with a close-range shot, but the Leganés goalkeeper cleared the ball off the line. Midfielder Lucas Torró appeared to put Osasuna ahead, but the goal was disallowed for a marginal offside committed by Rubén García earlier in the play, which in the images shown by VAR did not appear to be offside.
Budimir created another opportunity, controlling the ball with his chest and firing a half-volley that narrowly missed the post. In the final play of the first half, goalkeeper Sergio Herrera made a diving save to deny a header from defender Sergio González following a set piece.
In the second half, Los Rojillos again started on the front foot, creating danger around the home goal and winning several corner kicks. The opening goal came soon after. Catena flicked a corner kick towards the near post, and Herrando finished at the back post to put Osasuna ahead and score his first goal in league play.
Head coach Vicente Moreno’s side continued to control the match and nearly doubled the lead with a double chance. Dmitrovic first parried a powerful shot from Rubén García, who collected the rebound and set up Budimir, but the defense cleared the Croatian’s effort off the line.
Leganés responded by pushing higher up the pitch, eventually pinning Osasuna back with continuous attacks that Herrera and the visitors' defense repelled. However, Raba converted a penalty in the final minutes to bring the home side level.
Osasuna will return home on Sunday, April 13, to face Girona FC in Week 31 of LaLiga EA Sports. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CET (1 p.m. BST/8 a.m. ET).
