Forward Ante Budimir makes club history as Osasuna draws 3-3 against Valencia
Osasuna rally from behind twice, but a late goal by Umar Sadiq sealed the draw
Osasuna (7-11-7, 32 points) secured a 3-3 draw against Valencia (5-8-12, 24 points) thanks to a late goal from forward Umar Sadiq, after the home side had mounted a comeback with two goals from midfielder Aimar and one from forward Ante Budimir, who entered the club’s history books by becoming its all-time top scorer in LaLiga.
Valencia took an early lead through forward Diego López, whose goal was initially disallowed for offside but later validated by VAR. However, Osasuna responded quickly and threatened the visitors’ goal, mainly through combinations between forward Bryan Zaragoza and Aimar. The equalizer came when the team’s No. 10 capitalized on a rebound inside the box. Despite Osasuna’s dominance, Valencia struck again, with Sadiq making it 2-1. Aimar leveled the score moments later with a stunning volley from the edge of the area.
Supported by the home crowd, Osasuna pushed for a comeback before halftime, and it came in the 45th minute with a historic goal. Ante Budimir converted a penalty won by midfielder Rubén García, securing his place as Osasuna’s all-time top scorer in Spain’s top flight.
Valencia pushed forward for an equalizer in the second half, but Osasuna held firm defensively while looking to counter quickly. Bryan had a golden opportunity, but his shot skimmed the crossbar. As the game progressed, Valencia created danger, forcing two key saves from Sergio Herrera. In the final moments, Sadiq found the net again, scoring a backheel goal inside the box. Osasuna nearly snatched victory in stoppage time, but Catena’s header from a corner went just wide.
Osasuna will now prepare to face FC Barcelona on Saturday, March 8 at Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium in Week 27 of LaLiga EA Sports. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. CET (8 p.m. GMT/3 p.m. ET).
