Osasuna earns late draw against Mallorca at Estadi Mallorca Son Moix
Defender Enzo Boyomo scores a late equalizer to secure the point
Club Atlético Osasuna (7-10-6, 31 points) secured a point at Estadi Mallorca Son Moix after a 1-1 draw against RCD Mallorca (9-4-10, 31 points) on Saturday. Defender Enzo Boyomo scored a late equalizer after forward Vedat Muriqi had briefly put Los Bermellones ahead.
Osasuna started strong, dominating possession and creating early chances that tested Mallorca goalkeeper Dominik Greif. Los Rojillos controlled key areas of the field, with forward Bryan Zaragoza posing a threat on the left flank. One of their first scoring opportunities came when Zaragoza dribbled into the box and set up midfielder Jon Moncayola, whose shot forced a save from Greif. Before halftime, Osasuna had two more chances to take the lead. Midfielder Aimar Oroz fired a shot from outside the box, but Greif denied him. Minutes later, Lucas Torró attempted a header that missed the target. Mallorca struggled to break through Osasuna’s backline, which remained solid throughout the first half.
After the break, neither team could find a breakthrough. In the 75th minute, Osasuna appealed for a penalty after a potential handball by defender Pablo Maffeo, but following a VAR review, the referee did not award it. Shortly after, midfielder Moi Gómez sent a shot just wide of the target.
In the 80th minute, the referee pointed to the spot after Muriqi was brought down inside the box. The striker stepped up and converted the penalty to give Mallorca the lead. However, Osasuna continued pressing and kept Mallorca pinned in their half. Their persistence paid off in stoppage time when Boyomo capitalized on a rebound in the 94th minute to secure the equalizer. The visitors nearly found a winner moments later, but Greif denied Boyomo’s header, preventing him from completing a brace.
Following Saturday’s match, Osasuna returns to Navarre to prepare for a LaLiga EA Sports Week 24 clash against Real Madrid at El Sadar on Saturday, Feb. 15. Kickoff is set for 4:15 p.m. CET (3:15 p.m. GMT/12:15 p.m. ET).
