"I am very happy here and love the importance they give to my daily work," goalkeeper Aitor Fernández
Osasuna goalkeeper Aitor Fernández addressed the media after the club announced his contract extension through the 2026-27 season. Fernández was joined by sporting director Braulio Vázquez. "I am very happy here, thrilled, and love the importance the club has for my work on helping my teammates; having that be appreciated is very important to me," the goalkeeper said.
He wanted to "thank the club. To be appreciated at a human level, what you bring to the team. Osasuna has always impressed me from day one. The greatness of the club, the people, and today I want to thank everyone who works here for they have treated me since my arrival. Thanks to the team and players. Imagine how happy I am here that even though I do not have minutes, I have decided to extend my contract for two more years." The goalkeeper added, "I feel loved by the fans, thrill about renewing, loved by my teammates, and in the end, all that goes both ways."
The Mondragón native also spoke about the club's performance, "I saw it as a consolidated club, but Levante is a consolidated club, too, and they are in Segunda. The reality is that staying in Primera is crucial for this team and we need to maintain it. Yes, there is a new stadium, the reform of our sports complex, and players are getting re-signed to keep the foundation of players because I don't think since the club was promoted, it has ever finished below 12th; I think it has always finished above 12th place. We have to remember all that, but we need to be grounded. It is all part of its growth, and the fans can see and feel it."
"Aitor brings us peace of mind on a sporting and personal level," Braulio Vázquez
For Vázquez to have Fernández helps the competition thrive between goalkeepers. "We are excited to have Aitor here; it is a goalkeeper extension, which is such a specific position because the way he and [goalkeeper] Sergio [Herrera] push each other helps us know we are in good hands. Having Sergio doing as well as he is right now is partly due to the healthy competition between Aitor and him. Aitor is always there for training; it's not bitter and ready to be called on." The sporting director added, "I want to thank him for trusting us for two more years. R am certain we are safe regarding goalkeeping because we have two great goalies and even better people."
