Osasuna and Villarreal play to a 2-2 draw
Forward Ante Budimir gave Los Rojillos the lead after scoring a brace before the 30th minute.
Club Atlético Osasuna (6-4-4, 22 points) and Villarreal Club de Fútbol (7-4-2, 24 points) played to a 2-2 draw on Sunday afternoon at El Sadar. Los Rojillos took to a two-goal lead as forward Ante Budimir scored a brace before the half-hour; however, the Yellow Submarine tied up the score in the second half with goals by forwards Álex Baena and Gerard Moreno.
The game started with the home scoring the opening goal early in the match. Midfielder Rubén García sent a cross from the right flank, finding Budimir inside the box. The Croatian international headed the ball and placed it in the bottom right corner. Having the lead on the scoreboard, Los Rojillos began to press the opposition. Eight minutes later, Budimir was knocked down inside the box. Upon VAR review, the referee pointed to the spot, and it was the 33-year-old who converted the penalty. In the 27th minute, the referee awarded a penalty to Osasuna but called it off after reviewing it. Villarreal took a step forward as the first half ended, but the Rojillo backline and goalkeeper Sergio Herrera kept them at bay.
Midfielder Jon Moncayola had the first opportunity in the second half, but goalkeeper Diego Conde stopped the shot. Villarreal answered quickly with a shot by forward Thierno Barry, which Herrera kept from going in with a diving save. As time passed, Villarreal began to take charge and press Osasuna. In a transition play, Baena found a cross and cut the lead from close range. Los Roijllos tried to regain the lead with a shot by midfielder Iker Muñoz, but it went wide. The referee pointed to the spot in stoppage time, and Moreno scored the equalizer.
Osausna remains fifth in the standings and is preparing to face Sevilla CF on Monday, December 2, at the Sánchez Pizjuan stadium. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. CET (8 p.m. GMT/3 p.m. ET).
