Osasuna unveils the Tajonar Sports Complex expansion project

The club will add a stadium with a capacity for 2,800 spectators, two natural grass pitches and two artificial pitches to its sports complex. Tajonar will have 12 football fields: five with natural grass and seven with artificial grass. The project will involve an investment of 18 million euros, of which LaLiga Impulso (CVC) funds will cover 13 million.

Club Atlético Osasuna unveiled the Tajonar Sports Complex expansion project on Tuesday afternoon at El Sadar in front of 300 guests. Club president Luis Sabalza announced the club will build a small natural grass stadium with a capacity for 2,800 spectators, two natural grass pitches, two artificial grass pitches and a two-story building to host the first team and club's front office.

The expansion will be carried out on the land Osasuna recovered in 2021. The club bought the ground for the project in 2004, but it was handed over to the Government of Navarre in 2014 to settle part of an outstanding tax debt. Three years ago, the club purchased 166,264 square meters back for 6.5 million euros and will use part of it to turn Tajonar into one of the leading sports complexes in the country.

Following the president's address, Osasuna CEO Fran Canal and OFS architect Jaime Suescun presented the plan of action, project cost, and timeline. Osasuna will allocate 18 million euros to the expansion of the Tajonar Sports Complex. Around 13 million will come from LaLiga Impulso (CVC), and the club will finance the rest over an expected three-year period, which is the proposed construction time of the new facilities.

A stadium for 2,800 fans

The KREAN team of architects designed the expansion porject, the same team that carried out Athletic Club's Lezama and Sociedad Deportiva Éibar's new sports complex in Mallabia. OFS Architects, who were in charge of El Sadar's reform, will lead the preliminary draft, project, and site management.

The project includes the construction of a natural grass stadium with two stands, a main one and a small one on the opposite side. The main stand will have a cover and an expected capacity of 2,200 fans. It will be adjacent to Calle Polígono Industrial Berroa (next to Transportes Lizarraldea). On the other side, there will be a building with locker rooms and a roofed stand for about 600 people. The total capacity of the stadium is 2,800 fans. The project leaves room for the construction of additional seating, if needed in the future, on the backends of the field and increases the capacity to up to 5,000. The stadium will be used primarily as the home field by Osasuna Femenino and Osasuna Promesas.

Osasuna will also build a two-story building next to two natural grass fields. The first floor, 2,030 square meters, will be used by the first team and includes a gymnasium, medical area, locker rooms, hydrotherapy pools, storage rooms, coaching staff offices, a video room, a dining area, and a kitchen. Therefore, the first team will move entirely to the new building, and the current building will be used to improve the academy teams' working conditions, especially the women’s and affiliate teams.

A first-team building and a 600-spot parking

The building's second floor is 1,370 square meters, with an additional 960 square meters of outdoor space. This floor will be used mainly for front office-related activities, which currently take place at El Sadar. Tajonar will host the General Management, Communication, Digital, Marketing, Operations, Technology and Infrastructures, and the Osasuna Foundation departments. There will also be a meeting room and the President's Office. The move will open additional space at El Sadar for new resources. The Tajonar building will have a multi-use room for about 90 people, which will be used as a press conference room and assembly hall for presentations, conferences, or other activities.

The new facilities will be designed for club members' enjoyment as well. With this in mind, Valle de Araguren lent a 19,104-square-meter lot for 20 years to build a parking area for 600 cars. The parking lot will allow fans to head to Tajonar without issues on game days and watch the first-team train during the week. Tajonar will also add a restaurant for visitors in a prime spot of the facility to make the site a social place. The club will also add two small covered stands next to the first-team fields for fans to enjoy the open training sessions.

Tajonar will have two new artificial grass fields between the current facilities and the first team's future building, bringing the total number of fields at 'Futuro Tajonar' (Future Tajonar) to 12, five natural and seven artificial. This will make the Rojillo sports complex a top facility in our country. Tajonar will be one of the sub-host sites for the 2030 Spain, Portugal, and Morocco FIFA World Cup.

Regarding the timeline, the OFS team explained during their presentation that they will use the 2024-25 season to draft the project, prepare it, and obtain the necessary permits and licenses. Without ruling out the possibility that some of the actions may begin earlier, the start of the majority of the work is scheduled for September 2025. The inauguration of 'Futuro Tajonar' is expected by the start of the 2027-28 season.
